Cassio is a senior medical illustrator at
the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)
located in downtown Chicago, Illinois.
JAMA is a weekly peer-reviewed publication of clinical and basic medical research, whose primary readership
consists of
physicians, clinicians, researchers, scientists, allied health
professionals, and medical students. As part of the Editorial
Graphics Department of JAMA, Cassio develops and creates
figures (illustration, diagrams, schematics) to accompany both
scientific
(review) articles
and patient education information.
He strives to create visuals that simultaneously engage and clarify.
Cassio feels fortunate
to have worked on
diverse projects and in different capacities over the years,
and has thoroughly enjoyed being in the presence of energetic
and
dedicated individuals. Cassio
received his MA in Medical and Biological Illustration from Johns
Hopkins
University
School
of
Medicine. He is a certified
medical
illustrator and
professional member of the Association of Medical Illustrators and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. His work has received
recognition and awards.
His current professional mission is to [1] create innovative visual communication solutions in
medicine
and
science,
and [2]
to challenge his technical, conceptual, and creative skills as
an artist and communicator.
He also maintains an avid interest in fine art illustration, in large part because
of his background in traditional studio art. Cassio is always
eager to entertain ideas for collaborative projects (especially
those that
are cross-discipline!), and is open to freelance
work on a time-available basis.
